The mission of The Public Library in Chattanooga, TN is to excite the community about the many resources and experiences found in today's libraries. In order to provide materials and services outside the library's budget Club Lib, the library's signature fundraiser, was created.
Since its establishment in 2006, Club Lib has raised over $350,000 for special projects and collections. These include additional children's educational and audiovisual materials, a teen center, senior services including adult programs, audiovisual equipment, additional books on CD and large print books, equipment to digitize rare library materials, and the renovation of the Downtown Library's Children's Department and an interactive literacy educational center.
Money raised this year will purchase downloadable resources to expand the library's collection of eBooks and eAudio books for children, teens and adults. Selections will include early literacy titles, required school reading for students in middle and high school, popular fiction and non-fiction.
The Library also has research materials, popular fiction, DVDs and much more. The regional and genealogical collection features almost 6,000 online historical photographs and an exclusive Cherokee Heritage collection. The Library offers wireless Internet and computer access, Microsoft Office and a variety of online databases. The Downtown Library offers full passport services.
